Regional West Medical Center partners with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, to provide a two-year family medicine residency program and a month-long emergency medicine rotation in Scottsbluff.

Family Medicine Residency Program
Through the Family Medicine Residency program, physicians move to the Scottsbluff-Gering area to complete the final two years of a three-year residency program under the guidance of Regional West physicians. Family medicine residents develop a continuity practice as they care for patients at Panhandle Community Services-an FQHC-in Gering.

Residents participate in weekly family medicine Grand Rounds and didactic programs via distance learning technology and interactive video. The program includes month-long rotations in specialized care with local physicians. The OB experience is one of the strengths of the program; other rotations include: surgery, neurology, pediatrics, orthopeadics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, cardiology, behavioral medicine, pulmonology and critical care.

Emergency Medicine Residency Program
Regional West offers a month-long emergency medicine rotation that allows residents to experience the challenges and opportunities of emergency medicine in a rural setting.

Regional West is one of three Level II Trauma Centers in Nebraska. It provides 24-hour emergency and trauma care for western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. More than 14,000 patients are treated in the emergency department each year, including more than 600 trauma patients. Over 26% of trauma cases at Regional West require trauma team activation.

Regional West's Air Link air ambulance service and a well-trained team of first responders work cooperatively to provide quality emergency care to patients throughout the panhandle. Air Link transports provides more than 325 patient transports annually.

Residents work closely with trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists and specialists in a variety of medical disciplines to gain hands-on experience in emergency and trauma care.
